„Insight Investment Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2020“-Wettbewerb startet
Zusammenarbeit der ESO mit dem Royal Observatory Greenwich

Das Royal Observatory Greenwich hat in Zusammenarbeit mit Insight Investment und dem BBC Sky at Night Magazine die Schlüsseldaten für den Insight Investment Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2020-Wettbewerb bekannt gegeben – seiner alljährlichen, weltweiten Suche nach den schönsten und spektakulärsten Ansichten des Kosmos, seien es eindrucksvolle Bilder ausgedehnter Galaxien, Millionen Lichtjahre entfernt, oder dramatische Aufnahmen des Nachthimmels, sehr viel näher an Zuhause. Die ESO unterstützt den Wettbewerb 2020, indem sie aus ihrer Abteilung für Bildung und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit (ePOD) ein Jurymitglied stellt.
Der nun schon im zwölften Jahr stattfindende, äußerst beliebte Wettbewerb wird am 13. Januar 2020 für Teilnehmer geöffnet und gibt ihnen die Chance, den Hauptpreis von 10.000 £ mit nach Hause zu nehmen. Bis Freitag, den 6. März 2020, können die Teilnehmer bis zu zehn Bilder in den verschiedenen Kategorien des Wettbewerbs über www.rmg.co.uk/astrocomp einreichen.
Insight Investment Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2020 hat neun Hauptkategorien:
- Polarlichter: Fotografien, die die nördlichen und südlichen Lichter zeigen
- Galaxien: Deep Space-Objekte jenseits der Milchstraße, wie Galaxien, Galaxienhaufen und Sternverbände
- Unser Mond: Mondbilder, inklusive Mondfinsternisse und Planetenbedeckungen
- Unsere Sonne: Sonnenaufnahmen inklusive Finsternisse und Transits
- Menschen und Weltraum: Fotografien des Nachthimmels mit Menschen oder Elementen von menschlichem Interesse
- Planeten, Kometen und Asteroiden: alle anderen Objekte aus dem Sonnensystem, wie Planeten und ihre Monde, Kometen, Asteroiden und andere Formen von Himmelskörpern
- Himmelslandschaften: Fotografien von Landschaften, Meereslandschaften und Stadtbildern, in denen der Nacht- oder Dämmerungshimmel eine herausragende Rolle spielt
- Sterne und Nebel: Deep Space-Objekte innerhalb der Milchstraße, darunter Sterne, Sternhaufen, Supernova-Überreste, Nebel und andere intergalaktische Phänomene
- Young Astronomy Photographer of the Year: Bilder, die von Nachwuchs-Astronomen unter 16 Jahren aufgenommen wurden
Außerdem gibt es zwei Sonderpreise: den Sir Patrick Moore Prize for Best Newcomer, der an das beste Foto eines Amateur-Astrofotografen verliehen wird, der das Hobby im letzten Jahr aufgenommen hat und noch kein Bild für den Wettbewerb eingereicht hat; und den Annie Maunder Prize for Image Innovation, für Bilder, die mit bereits vorhandenen Open-Source-Daten bearbeitet wurden.
In diesem Jahr sind drei neue Juroren in die Jury gekommen: Dr. Emily Drabek-Maunder (ROG-Astronomin), László Francsics (Astrofotograf und Gesamtsieger des Insight Investment Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2019) und Susan Derges (Künstlerin).
Die Wettbewerbsbeiträge müssen bis zum 6. März 2020 eingereicht werden. Die Siegerbilder werden in der jährlichen Ausstellung im National Maritime Museum präsentiert. Der Eintritt in die Ausstellung ist kostenpflichtig.
Fotografen können online unter www.rmg.co.uk/astrocomp teilnehmen. Jeder Teilnehmer kann bis zu zehn Bilder für den Wettbewerb einreichen.
