Interacting binary environments R.E. Mennickent Abstract The environments of interacting binary stars are explored based on: (1) the theoretical framework given by the Roche model for close binaries, (2) recent numerical simulations of gas dynamics in these systems and (3) the most relevant observations providing strong constraints to the proposed models. Recent work on different kinds of interacting binaries is summarized with emphasis on the recently found Double Periodic Variables.
