Dear ESO Web Author, As you may know, the Editorial Office within the IT Department, is currently in a selection process for a Web Content Management System (WCMS) that will be installed to provide better authoring and management tools for the ESO Web Content (pages), and applications. We have reduced the number of candidate systems to two systems, DAY and Fatwire. These two systems will undergo extensive testing for usability and compliance with the our requirements for the ESO WCMS. Both DAY and Fatwire have installed test environments of their systems together with a number of test cases for creation and installation of pages, and workflows (Use Cases). DAY and Fatwire will present their systems and test installations in the last week of April: DAY will give their presentation on 28 April; Fatwire on 29 April. In the morning sessions Web authoring will be discussed and presentations will be given how the authoring use cases were installed. In the afternoon sessions technical details on the implementation of more complex Web applications and Use Cases will be discussed, e.g. the Science User Portal. As a ESO Web author/developer you are cordially invited to attend the meetings and to participate in the evaluation of the two candidate systems. When you are interessed and would like to participate in the evaluation of DAY and Fatwire WCMSes please send us an email. Detailed program of the presentation days (28 and 29 April) as well as directions and details about the tests will be forwarded as soon as possible. Needless to say: In order do a roughly evaluation and to select the right system we need broad participation in these tests and hence encourage you to accept this invitation. Kind regards, Rein Warmels/Gabriele Zech
