A view of the OASIS container on ESO’s Paranal Observatory

The container seen in the foreground of the picture holds all the equipment needed for the OASIS project, and sits only 500 metres from the site of ESO’s Very Large Telescope. As the newest addition to ESO’s Paranal Observatory in Chile, the OASIS project will be operated by the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) and aims to demonstrate that observations of airglow in the mid-atmosphere may be used as an early warning system for tsunamis.
