Visits to ESO Sites
Visits to the Facilities in Chile
ESO is happy to welcome tourists, students, as well as journalists and TV crews at its facilities in Chile, including La Silla, Paranal and ALMA. Visits will be organised within the limited capacity available and in such a way that they do not disturb the progress of work at the sites.
Please note that all media visits require authorization in advance by the ESO Public Affairs Department at the ESO Headquarters
in Garching, Germany. However, media representatives based in Chile should first contact
Public Visits to the Observatory on Cerro Paranal
Tourist and student visits to Paranal Observatory are scheduled for the last two weekends of every month, except December. A dedicated web pagee with all relevant information about Tourist, Journalist, Student Visits to Paranal is available.

Public Visits to the Observatory on La Silla
La Silla Observatory is open for public visits on Saturdays. Please check the La Silla Visitors page for further details. Check at the following address for the latest details, in particular the next available dates for such visits: recepstg@eso.org. Prior registration is always necessary.
Visits to ESO Headquarters in Garching
Media representatives are welcome to visit the ESO Headquarters in Garching near Munich. Please contact the ESO Public Affairs Department. in advance to obtain an appointment.
An Open House Day for the public normally takes place every second year in September-October. In October 2006 a special Open House day was organised on the occasion of the inauguration of the U6 Subway extension to the research institutes in Garching.
