             VLT-SW-MAR2001 - RELEASE NOTES FOR TCS
             =================================================

GENERAL
=======

TCS can now run on a full CCS or a CCS-Lite environment. The modules are the
same in both cases; the differences are only in the generation of the WS
environment and in functionality differences given by the differencec
CCS-CCSLite.

In the TCS User Manual all references to the now obsolete Booking System are
deleted.

FIXED PROBLEMS
==============

Several minor internal fixes and improvements have been done.

NEW FEATURES
============

1. Guide probe setting
----------------------

If Guide Star coordinates are supplied in a SETUP command, it is also possible
to specify which of the 2 possible probe settings ahall be used. This is
specified with the keywords

TEL.GSn.PPOS <pos>, where n is the Guide Star number, <pos> is POS or NEG

 The definition of POS probe position is :
    POS is when the probe arm has to move CLOCKWISE around its rotation
    point when moving from center position to the actual guide star, when
    you look at the adapter standing on the Nasmyth platform.

2. TCCD image update rate.
--------------------------

The update rate of images from the guide camera to the rtd display can now be
explicitly specified, in '# of frames/sec'. Before, the update rate was
changing with exposure time and window size, but this is no longer the case.
The default update rate is 2 images/sec.

3. Support of "external" autoguiding.
-------------------------------------

The autoguiding module (agws) now supports the OFFSAG command, which is
normally an internal TCS command, used to send autoguiding correction commands
to the axes.
This command will be made public, but for the time being only for the
VST project!
